Reserve is where a Polk system stops being a living-room upgrade and starts being a designed room. This page covers what each Reserve model does inside a system, which rooms justify the step up, and what the amplifier and acoustics have to deliver for that step up to be audible.
Reserve is Polk Audio's higher-specification speaker family, spanning floorstanding models (R700, R600, R500), bookshelf models (R200, R100), centre channels (R400, R350, R300) and the R900 height module. It is generally specified for larger or dedicated rooms, longer listening distances and systems where the front stage is expected to carry detail at both low and high listening levels.
Where Reserve Sits in the Polk Range
The reason to consider Reserve is rarely "more bass". It is control — how cleanly the front stage holds together at a 12-foot listening distance, during a loud scene, in a room with real furniture. Larger cabinets and different driver engineering change dispersion and low-level detail, which is exactly what a dedicated room with treatment lets you hear. In an untreated 12 x 12 ft bedroom, most of that advantage is lost to the room.
Who This Series May Suit
Reserve is worth considering in these situations. These are planning indicators, not guarantees — the room decides the outcome.
Dedicated theatre rooms and larger living rooms with a listening distance beyond roughly 3.5 metres.
Systems planned around 5.1.4 or 7.1.4 where the height layer must keep up with the bed layer.
Rooms that will receive acoustic treatment — treatment is what makes a higher-resolution speaker worth specifying.
Every model below has its own page with the manufacturer-published specifications we have been able to verify. Where a value is not published, the field is left blank rather than estimated.
Reserve builds usually start from the front three. A larger centre channel matters here: in a wide room the centre has to cover a wider seating arc, and a small centre will collapse dialogue toward the middle seat. From there, surrounds are chosen by wall availability — bookshelf models on brackets where walls allow, architectural in-wall models where they do not. The subwoofer count is a room decision; two smaller subwoofers in different positions often produce a more even seat-to-seat response than one large one in a corner.
Dolby Atmos and the Height Layer
The R900 height module reflects sound from the ceiling, while in-ceiling speakers fire directly at the seats. In rooms with a flat concrete or plasterboard ceiling at a normal height, both approaches work. In rooms with coffers, beams, sloped ceilings, exposed services or heavy false-ceiling detailing, direct ceiling speakers are usually the more predictable choice. Confirm how many height channels the receiver can process simultaneously before deciding on four.
Room Size and Listening Distance
Reserve rewards space. Give the front speakers distance from the rear and side walls, keep the seating away from the back wall where possible, and treat the first reflection points. Without those three things, a larger speaker mostly adds room modes rather than detail.
Music and Stereo Listening
For stereo, the Reserve floorstanders are designed to be driven properly. Amplifier quality and the front-pair position — spacing, toe-in, distance from the wall behind them — will change what you hear more than any other single decision in the system.
AV Receiver Matching
Check the published sensitivity and nominal impedance on each model page, then confirm the receiver or power amplifier is comfortable with that load at the listening levels you want. For 5.1.4 or 7.1.4, verify simultaneous processing channels and whether external amplification is required for the height layer.
Installation Considerations
For Reserve installations we plan the layout at the drawing stage: seating position, screen size, speaker heights, cable routes, rack ventilation and subwoofer positions tested by measurement. Height speakers and in-wall speakers must be resolved before ceiling and wall closure — retrofitting them afterwards is the most expensive mistake in this category.
How LiveInSmart Reviews This Information
Specifications on this page are taken from Polk Audio's own published product information and are re-checked before each content update. Where a value is not published by the manufacturer, we leave it out rather than estimate it — you will see "Specification currently being verified" instead of a guessed number. Everything else on this page is LiveInSmart's own system-design and installation guidance, written by the engineers who commission these rooms.
LiveInSmart Technologies is an authorised Polk Audio dealer in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, and a home theatre, AV, acoustics and smart-home integrator working across both states since 2018.
Our authorised-dealer status applies to Polk Audio in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Product recommendations still begin with the room, listening requirement and system design rather than a catalogue.
Speaker choice is always validated against the room: dimensions, listening distance, seating layout, ceiling construction, amplification and acoustic treatment.
Our commissioning routine includes level and distance setting, crossover and bass management, subwoofer positioning, room correction and a listening check with reference material.

Reserve is Polk Audio's R-series speaker family, positioned above Signature Elite, covering floorstanding, bookshelf, centre and height models intended to be combined into one system.
Which Reserve models are floorstanding?+
R700, R600 and R500 are the floorstanding models. Their cabinet size and driver complement differ, which affects how much low-frequency work they can take from the subwoofer.
How does Reserve differ from Signature Elite?+
The families differ in driver and cabinet engineering and in the size of the largest models. Whether that difference is audible in your room depends on listening distance, amplification and acoustic treatment, so compare the published specifications and, ideally, listen at similar levels.
Which centre channel goes with a Reserve front pair?+
Use a Reserve centre so the front three share the same tweeter family. Between the Reserve centres, the choice is driven by the width of the seating arc and the space available below the screen.
Do Reserve speakers need a separate power amplifier?+
Not automatically. It depends on the published sensitivity and impedance, the room size, your listening levels and the receiver's capability. For large rooms or 7.1.4 layouts, external amplification is a common and sensible choice.
Can Reserve be used with in-ceiling height speakers?+
Yes. A bed layer of Reserve speakers with architectural in-ceiling height speakers is a standard configuration where the ceiling can be cabled.
